Nun ja, ein Gimbal hab ich mir gerade besorgt. Für alle die, die so etwas nicht kennen: Ein Gimbal ist ein technisches Gerät welches dafür sorgt, dass eine Kamera stabilisiert wird. Dadurch erhoffe ich mir eine neue Perspektive bei den Kamerafahrten auf dem Rundkurs.

Ich habe mich für das Modell WG2 von Feiyu Tech entschieden, da der Preis für diesen Gimbal einfach unglaublich gut ist. Beim Auspacken macht der WG2 einen hochwertigen Eindruck. Die Tragarme sind aus Metall und mattschwarz ausgeführt. Das Gerät besitzt nur einen Knopf und übernimmt neben dem Ein- und Aussschalten mehrere Funktionen.

Für Menschen wie mich, die die weder eine Bedienungsanleitung lesen, noch sich die Funktionen bei Einfach , Doppel-, Dreifach und Vierfachklick merken können gibt es noch eine App für das Smartphone, die die Einrichtung und die Bedienung erheblich vereinfacht.

Auf der App lassen sich die einzelnen Stellmotoren in weiten Bereichen parametrieren. Und wenn man erst einmal verstanden hat, wie sich mit dem virtuellen Joystick die Kamera positionieren lässt, dann kann man den Gimbal auch verwenden. Ob man wirklich die Standardwerte für die Nachführung verändern muß? Keine Ahnung, aber ist auf jeden Fall gut, dass man das tun kann und ggfs. auch wieder auf die voreingestellten Werte zurücksetzen kann.

Laut Hersteller sollen die Batterien für etwas mehr als 2 Stunden Betrieb ausgelegt sein. Das sollte für einen Tag Rennstrecke gerade so reichen. Es wird sich dann zeigen, ob die Angaben dann wirklich in der Praxis umsetzbar sind. Auf jeden Fall ist der Gimbal für die GOPRO ein Tool was auf den ersten Blick taugt.

Well, i just bought a Gimbal. For those who have no clue what i am talking about: A gimbal is a technical device that keeps a camera stable. With the gimbal i hope to get a new camera perspective at the race track.

I decided for the WG2 from Feyiu Tech, because the price is just really good. The first impression after unpacking the WG2 is, that it looks like a top-quality product. The supporting arms are mad of black (anodized?) metal. The gimbal just has one button to switch on/off and offers some other functions as well.

For people like me, who do not read a manual, and can not remember functions at a single, double, three-time and four-time click sombody developed an App for Smartphone which helps a lot to setup and operating that gadget.

The App allows to configure the stepper motors in wide ranges. Once i understood how to position the camera with the virtual Joystick, i was able to use the Gimbal. The only question is, if it is really necessary to modify the settings to change the speed of the stepper drives? At this point i have no idea, but it is good to have the possibility.

According to Feiyu the batteries should last for more than 2 hours of operation. This should be enough for one Trackday. Real life will show if the 2 hours are achievable. On the first sight this Gimbal seems to be a good tool for my GOPRO.

Die Idee ist eigentlich ganz geil – aber die Ausführung hat schwer zu wünschen übrig gelassen. Der Ständer selbst ist sehr stabil, jedoch wurde erst eine falsche Hülse für das Mopped geliefert und die Passgenauigkeit, bzw. die Bohrungen der Halteplatte waren deutlich daneben.

Mit etwas Handarbeit passt jetzt auch der untere Zylinder ins Mopped und auch das Vorderrad wird (leicht) angehoben. Damit lässt sich dann das Mopped wir vorgesehen in der Garage problemlos balancieren – das schafft genug Platz um allle Moppeds in der Garage zu verstauen.

The idea is basically pretty cool – unfortunately in the real world there is a lack of quality. The mounting stand itself is very stable. But when it was delivered, there was a  wrong item and after i complained and got the correct one the accuracy of the bore holes on the baseplate is really bad.

With a little bit of crafting is was able to change that and now the entire bike – including  the front tire is lifted off the ground. WIth this the bike can be balanced easily in the Garage – and now i have plenty of space to fi all motorbikes into my Garage :-)[:]

Zum loggen der Touren hätte ich ja bereits in der Hornet einen Logger verbaut. Allerdings ist es bei der MT unterm Kleid so dermaßen eng, dass die Schachtel da kaum Platz findet. Also etwas gesucht und da bin ich auf den GPS Logger 2 aus dem Modellbau gestoßen.

Eigentlich ist das Ding für Modellflieger konzipiert, aber die MT09 fliegt ja auch tief und daher gar nicht so weit von der ursprünglichen Verwendung entfernt.

Größter Vorteil: Der Logger ist klein, richtig klein und lässt sich, selbst an der MT09, überall gut unterbringen. Das Gehäuse ist nicht größer als eine SD Karte und ca. 5mm dick.

Größter Nachteil: 5V Spannungsversorgung lässt sich nicht unbedingt am Mopped finden. Daher noch schnell einen winzigen 5V Spannungsstabilisator in Form eines kleinen Transistors in die Versorgung mit eingebaut und fertig ist die Laube.

Größte Sorge: Hab ich denn unter der Sitzbank ohne Antenne oder Sicht zum Himmel überhaupt Empfang? Ja – auch das klappt scheinbar richtig gut.

Die Daten werden auf die Mini-SD Karte geschrieben. Einstellbar von 1 Datenpunkt pro Sekunde (was für die Touren auf dem Mopped mehr als genug ist) bis zu 10 Messungen pro Sekunde. Bei den ersten Fahrten ist eine Datei für 40 Minuten Fahrtzeit ca. 1MB groß – damit sollte eigentlich bei mir ein Jahrespensum locker auf die Karte passen. Sogar eine Live-Übertragung der Telemetriedaten per Bluetooth wäre möglich, wenn auch bei dieser Anwendung sinnfrei.

Preislich hält sich diese kleine Wunderwerk echt im Rahmen und ist für mich der beste Logger, den ich bislang für den Einbau am Mopped gesehen habe. Endlich weiß ich, wo ich mit der MT rumfahre [:en]The MT received a new gadget before the first inspection.

In order to track my routes i am using already a GPS Logger / Tracker in the Hornet. However underneath the MT dress it is so damn tight that even a box of cigarettes might not fit in. For this reason i was looking for a smaller alternative. Finally i found the GPS Logger 2, which was basically designed for airplane modell-building applications. Since the MT09 is a low flying vehicle i am convinced that i did not misapply this little gandget.

Biggest Advantage: This Logging Tool is small, really small and it can be mounted everywhere. Even at the MT09 it is easy to find a space for it. The housing is as small as an SD Chip and approx. only 5mm thick.

Biggest Issue: 5V Power Supply is hard to find on a Motorbike. For this reason I used a tiny 5V power stabiliser in the wire of the 12V Power supply – and now i got a working logger.

Biggest Concern: Do i really have receiption underneath my seat without an external antenna or sight to the blue sky? Oh yes! And apparently the receiption seem to be really good.

The Data is beeing stored on a Mini-SD card. The data rate is adjustable from 1 datapoint per second (which is for my purpose way more than i need) up to 10 measurements per seconds. The first files showing a size of approx. 1MB per 40 minutes riding time. With this an entire year of driving should fit easily on the mini-SD card. With this tool it is even possible to have a live-transmission via Bluetooth – even if this is pointless for my application.

The price is really not too high und for me this is one of the best GPS-Logger, which i have seen for a use on a motorbike. Eventually i know which roads i use to ride with my MT

Lange hab ich versucht das Tripy mit Hilfe unmöglicher Apps mit dem iPad zu koppeln. Alles nur um die Routen von unterwegs noch zu planen und zu ändern. Alles ohne Erfolg. Der kleine USB Stick schafft hier einfach Abhilfe. Das Ding wird von der iWelt erkannt, Daten und Routen können problemlos kopiert und zwischen PC oder (viiel wichtiger!) dem Tripy ausgetauscht werden.

Fazit: Klein, praktisch und war das Geld wert!

[:en]The preparation for the Tour is ongoing: I got my TomTom and Silke a Tripy for navigation.

I tried forever to connect the Tripy to the iPad with all possible and impossible Apps – without success. The reason is, that we can plan and change our tour with the Tripy. Finally i found this little USB Stick. Simply to be connected to the iPad / iPhone and now we can easily exchange data between the i-World and regular PCs, but more important the Tripy!

Money well spent…

TOMTOM verkauft das Vio als Navi für Roller. Nun ja, zwei Reifen hat mein Fahrzeug, auch einen Motor und einen Gasgriff. Aber als Roller möchte ich die Hornet nun echt nicht bezeichnen. Ebenso wie ich das kleine runde Ding nicht als Navigationsgerät bezeichnen kann. ABER: Es ist wassergeschützt, tut seinen Dienst und hat nach den ersten Tagen der Spielerei einen brauchbaren Eindruck hinterlassen.

Etwas schwierig hat sich bei mir die Installation der App gestaltet. Genauer gesagt: Das Kartenmaterial! Ich wollte mal flugs alle Karten für Europa installieren, aber die brauchen eben mal locker 10GB auf dem Smartphone. Nach einer kleinen Löschorgie bezüglich Fotos und Videos: Tadddaaa!!! Immer noch nicht genug Platz.

Also zunächst Deutschland hochgeladen. Und dann konnte ich auch einzelne Länder Europas auswählen. Italien ist jetzt nicht ganz so groß und damit ist die Navigation für den Urlaub erst einmal gesichert. Da die Intelligenz im Smartphone und nicht in dieser runden Scheibe steckt, ist der Bedienung auf das Wesentliche reduziert. Ein Knopf auf der Rückseite zum einschalten und noch eine Möglichkeit im Smartphone abgespeicherte Orte schnell aufzurufen – aber das war es dann auch. Wer also beim fahren mal schnell umplanen möchte, ist hier falsch.

Für den Praxiseinsatz im Dauerbetrieb gibt es eine kleine Hürde: Da mein Smartphone die Navigation übernimmt lutscht das TOMTOM schnell die Batterien leer. Acht Stunden mit Navi wird wohl nur unter Einsatz einer Powerbank möglich sein. Kurz gesagt: Das VIO ist für die Stadt konzipiert und macht da auch für ’nen schlanken Euro eine gute Figur. Im nächsten Urlaub werde ich das VIO ein wenig missbrauchen und von meinen Erfahrungen berichten.[:en]This one looks almost like a rear mirror, but it is more like the extension of my Smartphone display. Since a couple of days i am a proud TOMTOM Vio owner.

TOMTOM sells the vio as Navigation system for Scooter. Well, the Hornet has two tires, one engine and a handlebar. But i will not call the Hornet a Scooter likewise i call this round something a Navigation system. HOWEVER: It is waterproof, does what it is supposed to and left a good impression after the first couple of days playing around with it.

The installation of the App was kind of difficult. Specifically: The maps! I like to install just all maps of Eupre, which requires more than 10GB of memory. After deleting alll my media from the phone: Taaaddaaa!! Still not enough memory

To start with i installed only the map of Germany. Afer this i was allowed to pick other countries and not the whole map of Europe. The italian map does  not require a ton of space – so i downloaded that and now we can use this dingi dongi during our next vacation.

The intelligence of the VIO is in the App on the Smartphone. For this reason the functionality itself is very limited. One single button on the backside to switch it on and off as well as a possibility to recall favorite locations which have been saved before with the App. But that is it. If you like to change a tour on the fly you’ll not get happy with that tool.

There is one little challenge to use this as a permanent GPS: This navigation funtion sucks the weak battery empty faster as you could watch it. To be eight hours on the road with GPS might be only possible with a huge powerpack. In short: TOMOM VIO was designed to be used on short distances (Scooter), it is simple to use and does a good Job for a lower budget.

I will abuse the VIO during my next  vacation in Italy and certainly report about my experience.[:]
